A Winter, Snowboard Wedding at Moonlight Basin-Big Sky Resort

Breanna + Jake

February 26 | Big Sky, Montana

As I've previously mentioned my love for skiing, you can imagine my excitement when Breanna and Jake asked me to be their Big Sky wedding photographer for their Montana winter wedding. And when Breanna added that they intended to snowboard that day and wanted me to join them, I'm sure she had to pull the phone away from her ear as I know I squealed, loudly; to combine so many of my favorite things into one day had me uncontrollably giddy.

Breanna’s and Jake’s love story charmed me as much as their wedding day plans. They met while working together in a skate shop, Jake being one of many men vying for this lovely, athletic lady's attention in a nearly all male environment.

After saving up a sizeable chunk of money, Breanna decided to ditch life’s doldrums and chase snowstorms throughout the Northwest. She invited Jake, who didn’t hesitate to join her on the cross-country adventure. The two ended up falling in love while chasing powder and snowboarding some of the West’s best mountain resorts.

It seemed only fitting that they should return to some of their favorite slopes to say I do. They hosted an intimate wedding on the patio of Moonlight Basin Resort and in the shadow of Lone Peak. Montana gifted the party with big, beautiful skies and temperatures in the upper 30s, balmy weather for the mountains in late February.

Jake ushered his parents and Breanna’s grandmothers down the aisle. Their small wedding party followed, which included their dog who performed the duties of both ringbearer and flower girl. Escorted by both her parents, Breanna concluded the processional in her beautiful, flowy dress, picked out specifically to handle her need to later maintain a wide, snowboarding stance.

After a lovely ceremony officiated by Breanna’s brother with special readings by both her grandmother and Jake’s sister, the couple went snowboarding in their wedding attire. To say Breanna impressed me with her ability to shred, regardless of her ten pound dress and lack of proper snow gear, would be an understatement. Their guests seemed equally dazzled as they greeted the new Mr. and Mrs. on the patio, and they continued the festivities indoors with an elegant meal, stunning cake, and cocktails in Moonlight’s dining room.

Just now, Breanna and Jake finished up their snowboarding honeymoon. They chased snowstorms out of Montana, Wyoming, and into Washington, the highlight being the 20 inches of powder they hit at Crystal Mountain.

Breanna and Jake, I'm thrilled you've enjoyed endless powder over the last few weeks while you’ve celebrated your love. May your love and winters last many, many years.
